I think that I have always been fascinated by words and their power to influence people for good or bad, to inspire them when perhaps at their lowest ebb to somehow keep on going, or to simply bring joy or comfort to their hearts and souls.
Until I started reviewing shows and performances around 2013 for what has become an arts review website that I co-founded (www.artsreviewsedinburgh.com), I had though not written or illustrated anything for a long time, and somehow forgotten just how much I like writing words, illustrating, listening to all forms of music, enjoying art, opera, ballet and much more. Along the way as I write reviews, I have been lucky to meet creative people from many walks of life and some have become personal friends.
This re-awakened interest in writing, and in particular the works of iconic song-writers and lyricists from the 1930s onwards, has led to personal projects to develop as poetry, songs or performance works (around 600 so far and being added to regularly), and illustration. There are also thoughts in development for stories for adults and children and much more. This website only touches upon a few on these ideas in progress, and collaborating with people and exchanging and building upon ideas has always been one of my pleasures, so if you are reading these pages and come across anything that you would like to develop in some way, just let me know.
The review schedule is always busy, and currently around 200 reviews for shows, performances and exhibitions are written every year. Further details are on the review page.
Photographing is slowly starting to become another area of interest, although I would be the first to admit that I have much to learn on how to compose a picture or capture that special moment.
