I’m always dancing in my dreams
Young and beautiful my spirit so care-free
Dancing to the sounds of beautiful music
With a handsome man holding me tight
Time has no hold in the dance hall of dreams
As we dance together into an endless night
The dance of a young woman’s wartime romance
Each of us, so much to look forward to
A better new world in the future ahead
Strange how in the darkness we only saw the light
If I could, I would forever stay in my dreams
Dancing almost on air, like I used to do
No pains of age in my bones dancing tonight
I see my face reflected in my true love’s eyes
Never dreaming tonight how soon I lose him as he dies
In some foreign field with a name that I can never pronounce
Time has yet to notice me, stop and point her finger at me
Laugh at me, make me grow old, make my heart grow cold
Take my love away, knowing no other would come my way
Take my youth away, replace it with aches and pains
I’m always dancing in my dreams
For a moment when I wake up I always smile
I can still feel my lover in my arms, hear the music play
Before my dream once more begins to quickly fade away
And my thoughts return to the reality of my life today
A mirror on the wall reflects my face back at me
Reminding me that my youth has now long gone and faded away
How I wish now that I could still dance
Just for one brief moment again feel the magic in the air
Of a beautiful romance before everything fades away again to…
The grim reality of my life today

NOTE. Growing older is something that given enough time comes to us all, and with it the loss often of not only our youth, but our physical ability to do many things that we once enjoyed. Time may play cruel tricks on us all in the real world, but in the dream-space of our sleep, time seems to hold no power and yesterday is only ever a heartbeat away.
Without realising it as I wrote this one today (29th December 2017), this story so easily forms part of a far larger story arc of a wartime romance...for some reason the story has not been fully told, there still seems to be more for our principal player to have to say for herself.
