Young woman, what do you see when you look into your mirror
That pretty summer’s dress that you’ve only just bought
Flattering you more than that young man holding your hand
Who stands, uninterested behind you, failing to understand
How precious, this reflection looking back at you truly is true
How fleeting the time that your mirror always compliments you
Young woman, what do you see when you look into your mirror
Light laughter lines here and there now appearing whenever you smile
One day, and I hope for you, not here for many more years
Those lines will be deep, like ancient dried out river beds
Upon which nothing now flows, not even anymore your tears
The mirror sees it all, even when you don’t want it to see
Young woman, what do you see when you look into your mirror
Hopes, dreams, promises of tomorrows in your future yet to come
Visions of happiness, perhaps even, your perfect life ahead with someone
But be careful my dear, don’t be taken in by the mirror’s lies
Reflecting sometimes what you want to see, but you don’t yet realise
Take it from me, the mirror is the master of illusions and delusions
Young woman, what do you see when you look into your mirror
Your youth that you believe now can never truly start to fade
That sparkle in your eyes that life will never you think take away
But all too soon for you will be gone the fleeting moment of today
Too soon looking back at you from your mirror, someone like me
Who knows the hard way, that time and mirrors, slowly take everything away

NOTE-Do young and old see the same things when they look into a mirror? That was the question here.
