Your beauty as you spread across this landscape is breathtaking
White skies meet white ground blurring the space between land and air
I am happy in this magical land of your own making
A magical wonderland of white coming it seems out of nowhere
Now without any worry, without any care, you are everywhere
New snow falls fast from almost white sky
Absorbing everything and everyone on the ground into its whiteness
The sound of the white silence is frightening
In total contrast to the shouts and screams of this mornings battle
Silencing forever the sounds of the dying and the wounded
I thought that you would be hard, cold, perhaps, so unpleasant
But you are warm, soft and oh so beautiful, like my own true love
Falling flakes of new snow from above land onto my cheek
Warm like my loves kisses, wet like my loves tears
With every falling snowflake I feel you closer now to me
I remember so well those warm kisses, those wet tears on that station platform
As I boarded that crowded train bound for a boat to France
I never wanted to leave you, you never wanted to leave me
How are you now here beside me my love
I don’t know the answer, but I thank God for his mercies
Let me wrap my blanket of white tightly around us both
Whilst I whisper in your ear the words I should have told you a long time go
Tell you so many things that I think you should know
The blackness of eternal sleep is approaching fast now
But I fear nothing my love with you here beside me.

This story follows on from our wounded and dying WWI soldier in the snow of “Snowfall”. He is now delusional from the cold and imagining that the girl he left behind at home is with him in his final moments – in fact imagining that the snow is her.
