The Winter Queen breathed out an ice cold sigh
Watching one night over her lands from her throne upon high
Poseidon, Lord of all the water and all those who sail upon the sea
Gazing upwards, captivated by her heavenly beauty was he
And on a cold clear winter’s night writers of old they do say
Words of love to the Winter Queen, love songs he did play
Whilst wrapped with her under her cloak of darkness and stars
Legend says the Winter Queen gave birth to a son that night
Called The North Star, the heaven’s brightest, shining light
So that all who sailed upon Poseidon’s northern seas
Their safe course home they would always now find with ease
The North Star forever shining in the Northern sky bright
To all who travelled, this was Poseidon and The Winter Queen’s great gift
A child born of love whose shining bright heavenly position never would shift
But to Amphitrite, Poseidon’s wife, this was no boon to those at sea
For her a constant reminder shining bright in the sky of her husband’s infidelity
In her rage and her anger, to Poseidon’s brother Zeus Amphitrite did flee
Something had to be done to avenge this slight, man below had to see
More than this brightly shining Northern Star’s burning light
Zeus, he took Amphitrite as his consort that cold winter’s night
Five daughters to him Amphitrite did bear and give to man below
So that all who sailed upon the Southern waters would forever know
Forever remember her name, five stars to point their way, bright points of light
The Southern Cross, forever shining brightly in the Southern night.
