Your tiny fingers, so small against my own
Tiny, fragile hands, now resting in hand
Smiling eyes that could have been mine
In another place and another time
That I wish I could return to now, somehow
Tiny hands that have never hurt anyone or anything in this world
A face of such innocence that I hope you never lose
I fought so hard to give you this chance of life
And I’m so sorry that this is the only gift I can give you today
Before I hold you for one last time, and walk away
My life out there on the streets, that’s no place for you
You need a home, safety, security, someone new who
Can give you all the things that I can never give to you
Little one, I need to let you go to give you a chance
To do so much more that I just live, you need a future too
So I’ll wrap you tight in my blanket of love
To keep you warm and safe one last time
And I hope in the coming years for you
That you find the love that I can no longer give you
I hope you still somehow remember me today
There’s a letter that I’ve written, put into a little box
Some faded photographs of me in happier days
Along with the only piece of jewellery that I own
I’ve been promised that some day, when the time it right
That they will give these gifts to you, tell you all about me
I hope that you have a beautiful life
That you never know harm or sorrow like me
I hope one day in the future, if I survive
That somehow I might see you again
But who knows what happens to what if, what when
I will pray every night that the angels look after you
That you never be the one to pay for my sins
So sleep tight, sleep sound, sleep safe
May my last gift to you, my blanket of love
Always be wrapped around you to keep you safe
Keep you safe in everywhere you go
Keep you safe in everything that you do
Goodbye my little one, I must now go
Your new future will be here for you soon
But always know that I will always love you
Tiny, fragile hands, now resting in hand
Smiling eyes that could have been mine
In another place and another time
That I wish I could return to now, somehow
Tiny hands that have never hurt anyone or anything in this world
A face of such innocence that I hope you never lose
I fought so hard to give you this chance of life
And I’m so sorry that this is the only gift I can give you today
