You looked so sweet, so fragile
That very first day that I saw you
Walking through golden fields of barley
Without it seemed, a care in the world
There was an innocence about you
I saw that somehow, even from a distance away
As I watched you walk for a while
Then you saw me, stopped and I was yours
Captivated forever by your smile
But appearances, they can be so deceptive
Things are often never quite what they seem
You lit up my life from that first moment
But the angels they touched you
But the devil he kissed you
Leaving you never understanding
The right paths in your life to take
Never understanding inside of you
The right or the wrong things to do
How could I ever have guessed that day
That both the light and the darkness
Were the toys with which you liked to play
Never letting anyone around you ever guess
Which side of you would come out to play today
But the light that shines inside of you
Will always be brighter than the darkness
The sweet music that you always hear
Will always keep the chaos of the world at bay
The angels they touched you
As surely as I touch you now
The devil he kissed you
As surely as I kiss you now
And I realise without ever being told
That you could never the consciousness of an angel hold
Without burning up from the light
Turning away to accept the devil’s kiss
In the darkness of the night
But sleep safe now my angel as I hold you tight
Above last line spoken at the end of last verse
I watch you in the evening light
That special time just before
The end of the day gives way
To the darkness of the coming night
I watch you in the morning light
The soft colours of the new day
Flickering gently around your body
As you sleep the sleep of an angel
They angels they touched you
But the devil he kissed you
Leaving you never understanding
The right paths in your life to take
Never understanding inside of you
The right or the wrong things to do
But the light that shines inside of you
Will always be brighter than the darkness
The sweet music that you always hear
Will always keep the noises and
The chaos of this world outside
At distance unable to ever harm you
They angels they touched you
But the devil he kissed you
Leaving you never understanding
The right paths in your life to take
But I will always love you (this line spoken at the end of verse)

Note. I think that this one came about with an enduring fascination of that split personality that is somewhere in all of us. We are all creatures of light and dark, good and evil, it is just a matter of which side of our duality we choose to display to people that give them their perceptions of us.
